At Smile Stories Dental Implants Clinic, our amazing team of experts have placed over 2,000 dental implants and have helped people exactly like you.

Although dentures are often cost-effective, over time they can loosen and become more of a hinderance than a help. Our clients often find us because they’re embarrassed or frustrated that they can’t socialise or eat their favourite foods. Denture adhesives can work but they’re super sticky and a nightmare to pick off!

By placing denture implants, your loose dentures can be clipped into your mouth to stop them moving for good.

What are denture implants?

Denture implants replace missing teeth. Where as a standard dentures will work by suction fit (which doesn’t always work), denture implants fix down your dentures to stop them moving.

First, several titanium implants are placed strategically under the denture. These will fuse to your jaw and act as an anchor for the denture above it.

The implants have clips or balls on the top of them (like in the photo). You can then click your denture into place rather than rely on poor suction fit.

No more moving dentures!

Why might you need denture implants?

If you’re dealing with rocking dentures then you may need denture implants.

When you lose teeth your jawbone has less purpose – there are no teeth left so it shrinks away over time.

This can cause a few issues. Firstly, as dentures get old they no longer fit as your mouth has changed shape, causing them to loosen and rub. Secondly, dentures won’t work. Because they depend on suction, as the bony ridge shrinks over time they will no longer stay down.

Denture implants put a stop to awkward movement, giving you as secure and comfortable fit, as well as peace of mind!

Denture implants walkthrough

The process of denture implants typically involves several steps and we’re here to guide and help you along the way:

Initial Complimentary Chat:

We offer a handful of free consultations monthly for you to find out more about denture implants, assess your suitability and ask any questions.

The 3 Part Consultation Process:

The most comprehensive dental health check you’ve ever had. Our implant dentists will look at your whole mouth to ensure your denture implants are placed in a healthy, disease-free environment. They’ll take measurements, x-rays, scans and 3D x-rays to start planning your case.

Implant Placement:

The titanium implants are optimally placed to stop your denture moving, guided by ultra high-tech digital planning. The implants will serve as the anchors to stop your denture moving.

Osseointegration:

Over the next few months, a process called osseointegration takes place, where your implant and body become best of friends. The implants fuse with the surrounding bone, ensuring a secure and long-lasting result.

Denture anchoring:

Lastly, we clip your denture to the denture implants and fasten them down. It may be possible to alter your current denture to allow this, or custom build a natural-looking, long-lasting new denture with our master denturists.

Are dental implants better than dentures?

Dental implants offer superior stability, functionality, and aesthetics compared to traditional dentures, making them a popular choice for many patients.

Are denture implants worth it?

Denture implants offer improved quality of life, confidence, and oral function. If you value eating the foods you love and smiling without worry your dentures will pop out then they will be life-changing.

Are implant dentures removable?

Implant-supported dentures are typically removable for cleaning, providing a balance between stability and convenience.

Are permanent dentures the same as implants?

Permanent dentures are a type of implant-supported prosthesis designed to be fixed in place. They are not the same as traditional removable dentures.

Can full dentures be implanted?

Yes, full dentures can be implant-supported, providing enhanced stability and eliminating common issues associated with traditional removable dentures.

Can two implants support an upper denture?

Upper dentures require at least 2 implants for proper support as the upper jaw bone. This is also the case for the lower jaw.

Can you get denture implants on the NHS?

The availability of denture implants on the NHS is limited and varies based on individual cases and specific dental health needs. It’s very rare that denture implants will be available on the NHS. They’re reserved for extreme circumstances such as road traffic accidents or to rebuild someone’s life after oral cancer.

How do you clean implant dentures?

Implant dentures should be removed and then cleaned daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and special denture cleaner to maintain oral hygiene and implant health.

How long do denture implants last?

With proper care, denture implants can last 10-15 years or more. Regular dental health checks, hygienist visits and good oral hygiene practices are essential for longevity.

How much are denture implants?

The cost of denture implants varies based on factors such as the number of implants and the type of dentures. Consultation with a dentist is necessary for an accurate estimate but generally speaking, they’re the most cost-effective way of fastening down a denture by far.
